Chapter Events - Bama Bound BBQ

The Bama Bound BBQ is our annual family picnic and send-off for area students attending The University of Alabama.  We typically hold the event in July at Lacey Woods Park in Arlington.  For the past several years, Dixie Bones BBQ in Woodbridge has catered our event.

The Bama Bound BBQ is always a fun day for alumni, friends and family.  And the University always provides us with an entertaining and informative guest speaker.  Past guest speakers have included Wendell Holmes (UA Assistant Athletic Director), Guy Caldwell (nationally renowned UA Associate Professor of Biology), Chris Stewart (host of the Crimson Tide Post Game Show and radio voice of Bama Basketball) and John Cochran (ABC News White House Correspondent).  Representatives from the University as well as our regional recruiter, Elizabeth Dugas, are also on hand to answer any questions that students and parents may have about The Capstone.

The 24th Annual Bama Bound BBQ was held on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 12:30pm at Lacey Woods Park in Arlington (1200 North George Mason Drive, Arlington, VA  22205; Lacey Woods is a 10-minute walk from Ballston Metro on the Orange line)

This year's guest speaker was former Alabama football player, Roger Shultz.
Roger Shultz was a four year starter at the University of Alabama where he was a two time All SEC center. As a freshman, Roger was named to the all SEC freshman team, as well as an All-American. His senior year, he was the Pat Trammel Award and the Dwight Stephenson Award winner. He was also invited to and played in the Senior Bowl. After his playing days, he was named to the Alabama All Decade team for the 90s, as well as the 50 Year All Iron Bowl Team.
Tide fans will remember the steady presence that Roger brought to the middle of the offensive line. In 1992, he returned to serve as a Graduate Assistant for the National Championship Team.
Most recently, Roger dropped 164 pounds, more than any other contestant in the history of NBC's The Biggest Loser and finished second losing by only four pounds.

Dixie Bones BBQ lunch was made possible with contributions by the University of Alabama chapters of Alpha Lambda Delta and Order of Omega.
